- How to organize the Downloads folder on a Mac, automaticallyDownloads gets messy because files arrive with names like “document (3).pdf”. Fix the names and the filing follows. By hand: sort with Stacks and rename in Finder. Automatically: Kempt reads each new download on your Mac, gives it a clear name and files it, and holds back anything it is unsure about.
- How to rename PDFs and scans by their content on a MacFinder can rename many files at once, but only with patterns, not by what each PDF says. To name a PDF from its content you need something that reads it. Kempt reads each PDF, scan and photo of paper on your Mac (OCR and Apple’s on-device model) and proposes a name like “2026-10 Electricity bill EDF.pdf”, in 1 to 1.4 seconds a file.
- How to find a document on a Mac by what’s inside itSpotlight searches file names and indexed text, so it works when you remember a word that’s in the file. When you remember what the document is but not its words (“my lease”, “the rent amount”), Kempt’s Ask (⌃⌥Space) searches by meaning and answers with the source page cited, in about 10 ms over 1,575 documents.
- Rental application documents: the checklist, and how to send it fastLandlords and property managers in the US usually ask for a photo ID, recent pay stubs (often the last two or three), recent bank statements, and sometimes a tax return or W-2, an employment letter and references. Each one asks differently, so read their list carefully. Kempt reads the landlord’s email, finds each requested document on your Mac and assembles the packet.
- How to send your accountant a clean monthly pack from a MacYour accountant or bookkeeper needs every receipt and invoice for the month, with the amount, and ideally matched to your bank statement. By hand that means one folder per month and a spreadsheet. Kempt builds the pack for you: a merged PDF, a CSV of amounts and a ZIP. In testing it picked 48 of 50 hand-checked documents and read 11 of 11 amounts correctly.
- New Mac? How to keep it organized from day oneDecide where things go before files pile up: a few top-level folders, iCloud Desktop & Documents if you use more than one device, and something that names downloads as they arrive. Kempt is built for exactly that on macOS 26: it names and files each document on your Mac with Apple’s on-device model, never uploads anything and lets you undo every move.
- How to find duplicate files and old installers on a Mac, safelymacOS has no built-in duplicate finder. System Settings › General › Storage lists large files, and Finder can sort by size and name. Kempt’s Clean Up finds old installers, exact duplicates and similar re-saved copies in 0.86 s, never pre-ticks a similar copy, and only ever moves things to the Trash, with Undo.
- Private AI for your files: organizers that don’t upload your documentsMany AI file tools send your file’s text to a cloud model, either theirs or one you connect with an API key. Kempt does not: reading, naming, search, answers and voice all run on your Mac with Apple’s on-device Foundation Models (macOS 26). There is no account and no analytics; licence activation is the only thing that goes online.
