In short
Many AI file tools send your file’s text to a cloud model, either theirs or one you connect with an API key. Kempt does not: reading, naming, search, answers and voice all run on your Mac with Apple’s on-device Foundation Models (macOS 26). There is no account and no analytics; licence activation is the only thing that goes online.
Without any app
Read the privacy page
Look for where processing happens (“on-device”, “local”) and whether file contents, or only file names, are sent.
Check the defaults
Some apps are private only if you set up a local model yourself. Check what happens out of the box.
Watch for accounts
An account or API key often means data passes through someone’s server.
With Kempt
Apple’s on-device model
Kempt uses the Foundation Models built into macOS 26. No API key and no cloud bill.
No upload, no analytics
Your documents, names and searches stay on your Mac. There is no telemetry.
No account
Buy once, activate, done. Activation is the only network call.
Questions people ask
Is Apple Intelligence on-device?
Apple’s Foundation Models framework runs its model on the device. Kempt uses it this way, so documents are not sent off your Mac.
Do AI file renamers upload my files?
Some do by default. NameQuick’s managed plan, for example, sends file text to its EU servers and says it deletes it within 24 hours. Check each app’s default.
Does Kempt work offline?
Yes, after activation. Naming, search and answers don’t need a connection.
